The short answer: Start with NAGI if you enjoy floral notes, gentle umami and drinking matcha pure. Consider LÁN if you prefer a nutty, roasted and creamy base for a matcha latte. Both products are described as suitable for pure preparation and lattes. Your preferred flavour matters more than choosing by country alone.
Two distinct origins
NAGI's current product details identify Shizuoka and Kagoshima in Japan and a blend of Okumidori, Saemidori, Saeakari and Tsuyuhikari cultivars. LÁN is from Jiangsu in China and uses the single cultivar Zhongcha. These details distinguish the products; a country of origin is not a universal quality ranking.
Compare their flavour profiles
- NAGI: floral aroma, delicate tea notes, a velvety texture and gentle umami.
- LÁN: nutty, roasted notes, creamy texture and balanced bitterness. Its description particularly recommends it for lattes; it can also be enjoyed pure if you like a slightly bitter note.
Milk or a plant-based drink changes the balance between tea, sweetness and creaminess. To compare the two fairly, begin with the same amount of powder and liquid. Otherwise, you may simply be comparing two different drink strengths. Neither profile is objectively the best choice for every person.
Which one should you buy first?
Choose NAGI when pure preparation and floral notes are your priority. Choose LÁN when your everyday drink is a latte and you favour nutty, roasted flavours. The matcha Duo is another way to explore both profiles. Check its current contents on the product page rather than assuming a total net weight from the product name.
Your purchase checklist
The NAGI and LÁN pages show current prices, packaging choices and availability. Browse the matcha collection for refill packs and multipacks. Certifications belong to the individual product: NAGI's information should not automatically be applied to LÁN. See our shipping policy and return policy for the terms that apply to your order.
